Church Schedule Changes

NACC/Drury Habitat for Humanity House Is Dedicated
Last Friday afternoon, many "ooh's" and "ah's" came forth as the newest Habitat for Humanity house in the Legacy Court sub-division was dedicated. NACC and St. Elizabeth Anne Seton Catholic Church partnered in the underwriting costs ($25,000 each) for building this home for the Amy Pinegar and her family of four children. In addition, many local businesses made significant material donations. The true uniqueness, however, came from Drury University -- where the Hammons School of Architecture designed this first-ever "Sustainable" Habitat Home and the student body partnered with many volunteers from the churches and community to build the home. A Drury Professor Traci Sooter, affectionately known as the "Chaulk Nazi," was the Construction Manager and told the audience she and all the students were wearing green T-shirts because "We Dream in Green." On Dedication Day, the house was professionally tested for "tightness" (non-air leakage) and received the company's highest rating yet; and thus, the house was named a Platinum status home.
Among the many new innovations in this 1340 square foot home were the passive
systems in the design of roofs, floors, and windows to take advantage of solar
heating and cooling. Plus, the roof, carpet, and sidings are all 100% recycled
materials. The concrete driveway is made of pervious concrete, so there will be
no run-off and all the rainwater runoff from the house is captured in rain
barrels and landscaping pits. Finally, all the construction waste was mulched
and used in the landscaping. The landfill received minimal materials. Quite an
interesting house that your NACC Outreach Ministries helped make happen as well
as one family VERY happy!
