CROSSLINES

A little boy was excitedly looking into the grocery bags his family was taking to their car from Crosslines. Our coordinator, Nancy Davis, was listening as he exclaimed over the choice of foods in the bags and announced what they would be having for dinner that night. Nancy asked him, "What did you have for dinner last night?" The child responded without hesitation, "It wasn’t my turn to eat last night." Can you imagine making your children take turns eating one day and not the next? Okay folks, that’s what we are up against.

Food plays an important role in the Bible’s story of faith. In Matthew’s account of the final judgement, those who fed the hungry are the ones who are invited into the everlasting Kingdom of God. In James, the apostle says that those who claim to have faith in Jesus and yet turn their backs on the hungry are hypocrites. Even in the book of Revelation as John describes the promised everlasting life in heaven, he says, "They will hunger no more, and thirst no more."

Crosslines is a ministry of the Council of Churches of the Ozarks through whom we give groceries to families in need. Crosslines allows community churches to keep one food pantry and to take turns supplying and staffing the distribution center on north Glenstone at Chestnut Expressway. The first Friday of every month (9:00 a.m. until 1:45 p.m.) is National Avenue Christian Church’s day at Crosslines. We take food to Crosslines from the church on the Thursday before our distribution day. We provide food for 40 families to have meals for three days.

You can participate in this ministry by bringing food items to donate and leaving them on our Crosslines table in Fellowship Hall. We also need cash donations for the purchase of certain perishable items. The church supports Crosslines through our budgeted giving and through special distributions of our Outreach Foundation. We also are in regular need of volunteers to help transport and distribute the food. Nancy Davis is the contact person for this outreach ministry (883-5888). We also gratefully acknowledge the volunteer hours given in this ministry by Don & Twajana Chasteen, Huck Roberts, Bill &Marilyn Wright and Joan Young.
